Mastering HTTP Status Codes: A Practical Approach
HTTP status codes are essential for web developers to understand server responses.
Instead of rote memorization, let’s explore a practical method to remember these codes by associating them with everyday scenarios.
2xx: Success Codes
Probably the best codes that you can get. Think of them as “mission accomplished” codes.
200 OK: You’ve successfully ordered a pizza. Or your daughter asks for your permission to go out to the cinema and you respond with “200 OK”.
201 Created: You’ve just signed up for a new social media account. Your profile is now created. Or you enrolled for that dance class.
204 No Content: You’ve deleted all your emails. The action was successful, but there’s nothing left to show.
3xx: Redirection Codes
In tech, change is the sole constant. Think of these as “change of plans” codes.
301 Moved Permanently: The girl next door has moved to a new city. Luckily, they left a sign with their new address.
302 Found: The book you want is temporarily out of stock at your local bookstore, but available at another branch.
