I’m Ditching Ubuntu Interim Releases for Good
Ubuntu interim release has been a nightmare I don’t ever want to repeat
In tech, the desire for the “latest and greatest” is undeniable.
I, like countless others, usually get caught up in the chase for the newest and shiniest software.
I have always used Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support) releases and they are pretty good — stable, user-friendly, and you get support. All the good things Ubuntu is known for.
But my love affair hit a rough patch when I upgraded to an interim release, Ubuntu 23.10 (Mantic Minotaur), to be precise.
Don’t get me wrong, the thrill of getting new software features is real. But the excitement quickly fades away. The reality is, there is a price to be paid.
Nagging Updates
The struggle is real. Every morning, I’m bombarded with OS update notifications.
I wait while the system updates, then when its done updating I’m prompted to restart my PC — before I can finally get to work.
I’m okay with getting critical updates. But a daily dose of updates disrupts my workflow and is counter productive.
