Ubuntu is a powerful Linux distro that is suited for a variety of use cases. And it is ideal for both beginners and seasoned Linux users.

When installing Ubuntu, you should set it up with security in mind. This lays a good foundation for having a robust and resilient system.

1. Confirm the ISO Image

First things first, always confirm that the ISO image you are about to install is not corrupted or has not been tampered with in any way.

Do not compromise on security especially if you’re working in production environments, cooperate infrastructure, or highly secure environments.

Download a checksum file on the official ubuntu downloads page. Then cd in your Download folder or the location of your ISO and checksum file.

Run the sha256sum command followed by the ISO file name. For example

sha256sum ubuntu-22.04.4-desktop-amd64.iso

The generated checksum should be similar to the one that you get from the official site.

2. Use the Minimal Installer
